What problem is your startup solving?
Recruiting.
Currently this is our largest obstacle to overcome. We've been scouring the depths of the web to find java coders who not only have the correct set of skills, but also a persona that matches the public face of the company. The lack of coders has had an obvious slowing impact on our R&D efforts. I'm fairly certain this is a common denominator - finding the correct people - with startups and big companies alike.
We don't necessarily perceive it as a problem, but more as an interesting opportunity to ensure that we do find the most suited people for the kind of work we are doing. Because the right person in the right position will enable the company to head in the right direction.
What is your solution to that problem?
Benefits.
We're definitely trying to ante-up our perks game in the future by including meal vouchers, covering travel expenses, providing exercise incentives and opportunities etc.
We can always promote ourselves as the easy-going-yes-can-do-company we are, but the benefits are something you can lay down on the table immediately - they're tangible - and the rest - values, attitudes - will follow.
What makes your startup stand out from the crowd?
- Easy-to-use tools and features. It's all about easing the creation process.
- Continuous effort to enhance the user experience (e.g. new features). There's no time for stalling.
- Low-cost. And of course our users can make a website for free, too.
- A variety of professional layouts and themes.
- Extremely quick to set up. Takes about a minute, and you're good to start building your site.
Who are your target customers?
The non-technical type.
What does this actually encompass? Because the non-technical user is quite vague. In essence, it's pretty much anybody who is interested in building a website without all the previously quintessential technical aptitude required.
Of course we can get into specifics here an mention such segments as SME's, organizations, hobbyists, pet owners, sports teams, mothers.
Tell us a little about your team.
This is a one of those situations when words are just not enough. I reckon seeing is believing would be the best approach here, but I will try my best.
We're all pretty much young-ish, international and adaptive, which automatically forms a certain comradery between all of us. Also, we are extremely like-minded, and we take pride in recruiting people who fit into a certain mind frame. But of course this doesn't mean we are all carbon copies of each other. More or less, we try to think alike, but we all have a unique skill-set to compliment each other's work.
A typical day for our team will include anything from playing a game of pool or foosball with the boss man to solving project management issues using the ever-so-useful rock-paper-scissors method. Oh, we do squeeze in some work amidst all of this, too.
What are your biggest needs to get your startup to the next level?
Since we have been pro-actively hiring people during the current year, we definitely need to follow the same footsteps to accommodate the growth we are expecting for the coming year.
