I am curious as to how many startups on BigStartups are bootstrapping vs. have received funding. If you have received funding how have you (or do you plan) on utilizing it? Just curious to see the results. Kevin Hiser QStart Labs

I've got two startups that are currently bootstrapped am gearing up to raise a round of angel funding for one of them. The main use to funds is to be able to keep myself focused entirely on it, so I don't have to spend the majority of my time doing other things to pay the bills.

Bootstrapping, self-sustaining, not actively looking for funding at this point. If a business is not making any profit on its own, the VCs are more likely to require a significant equity stake if they don't refuse to fund in the first place.

I'm bootstrapping. When I'm not working on my day job I am working on my websites. With no funding this has been a long process though.

We are Bootstrapping. Funding will not allow you to do what u are intneded to achieve atleast at the initial stage.

Bootstrapping, its not so bad even though it adds an extra layer of stress. We would like to get some funding with out having to sell out. For us even a little bit would go a long way.

I'm with Matt. I have two funded start-ups and three boot-strapped ones. I am lucky in my regard that there is a good amount of cross-over support in the project teams I am working with, allowing dollars to be maximized.

Bootstrapping, have a Pre-Beta site up and being used by people. Loooking for funding to get to Beta.

This is what I expected and is an incredible testament to all those that are working hard to innovate, create jobs, and build the "Next Cool Thing" We have the opportunity to work with both bootstrappers and funded companies, help them overcome different sets of challenges, and come out the other end with a better chance of success.
